The Civil Registry Department is preparing to launch a Multi-Purpose Identification Project, by the end of this year.

The project, which was launched in Grenada in January, is expected to facilitate the easy recognition of citizens from participating countries, through the use of a unique form of identification which includes the country code.

Speaking with NBC News on 6th November, High Court Registrar, Tamara Gibson-Marks, said that the Department is awaiting the green light from the OECS Secretariat to launch the project.

Mrs. Gibson-Marks said that security is of critical importance to the Department, as they seek to prevent cases of identity theft.
